​DHA PH are the Army subject matter experts for nonionizing radiation and provide information and guidance about potential hazards associated with the operation of lasers and high intensity optical sources such as laser target designators, infrared countermeasures, industrial optical sources, nonlethal weapons, and other high technology optical sources.  ​

The Nonionizing Radiation (NR) Division provides measurements and calculations for every laser used or acquired by the Army with the exception of those found in medical or industrial settings. The NR Division also acts as the Laser Safety Review Coordinator for the Army per DODI 6055.15. ​

​​Nonionizing Ra​dation Safety Training

  • Level 2 and Level 3 Nonionizing Radiation Safety Officers (NRSO), to include Laser Safety Officers (LSO) and Radio Frequency Safety Officers, is offered at least once a year.  Please register for NRSO training here.

  • ​​LSO Refresher training is available to those who have completed the full course.  Proof of full course from other sources such as other Services or Laser Institute of America (LIA) is accepted. Please register for LSO training here
