Communicable and infectious diseases

Most of the communicable and infectious diseases listed below are military Reportable Medical Events (RMEs)* that require reporting within 7 days (a few require reporting in 24 hours†) from diagnosis at a military treatment facility. Because these conditions are spread between people, from animals to people, from contact with surfaces, or from food or water sources in a local area, early notification of cases is critical to reduce the spread and potential outbreaks. See DHA guidance for military healthcare providers: Communicable Disease Toolkit (CDT)
