Target Audience
Personnel who completed the 40-hour Transport of Biomedical Material Course who need their biennial (two year) refresher training.
Description
This Online Interactive Refresher Course details the provisions governing biomedical material transport. The course focuses on National and International transport regulatory requirements as prescribed by International and Domestic transportation authorities.  United Nations Recommendations for the Transport of Dangerous Goods are discussed as presented in the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations, International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code, U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Regulations, Department of Defense (DOD) directives and regulations as well as other regulatory agencies.  Students learn to identify and classify biomedical material; prepare Category A and B Infectious Substances, toxins, genetically modified microorganisms (GMMO)/genetically modified organisms (GMOs), regulated medical waste, biological products, and related medical material for transport; prepare and certify shipping papers for biomedical material; and package samples and specimens for transport.  This Course meets both the DoD and DOT training requirements. This fast-paced course recertifies personnel who successfully passed the initial Transport of Biomedical Material Course and are seeking recertification but are unable to take the training online.  To be designated a certifier of biomedical material, students must successfully pass an opened-book examination with 80% or better and receive refresher training every 2 years.
Prerequisites
Must have successfully completed the 40 hour Transport of Biomedical Material within the last two years.  (DoD personnel may receive "by-exception" approval to take this course if their certification is within a four year period.)
